Sabina England Loren D. St. Louis Fringe Festival I will perform slam poetry with another poet, Loren D., from Chicago. I will perform my poem in American Sign Language, while she will provide voice. We both will present our original, new works. We will appear at the Westgate Lofts as part of the St. Louis Fringe Festival's "Haberdashery Revue" line-up, to help raise money for the Fringe festival in the summer!

I will perform a character based on a puppet doll from Rajasthan... my performance will be a mixture of mime 'n' dance, accompanied with music by Lux Ascension. Musical instruments include: hammered dulcimer, Turkish bouzouki, Djeme (West African drum), and Native American flute. I am the only deaf performer who will appear at the “Generation” show. Date: May 11th, 2012 Time: 6PM Location: Washington St & Spring St, outside the Museum of Contemporary Art I will perform one monologue and introduce two other monologues in Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, all in American Sign Language. In fact, the entire show will be performed in American Sign Language. There will be voice actors as well. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Deaf, Inc. to help Deaf victims of domestic violence and abuse. WHEN:
April 19-21st, 2012 WHERE: Ivory Theatre 7620 Michigan Avenue St. Louis, MO 63111 WHY: To promote V-Day and raise awareness about violence against women and girls, misogyny, sexism, homophobia, racism, etc. and to raise money to help Deaf victims of domestic abuse and violence. WHO: I will perform onstage, along with about 9 other deaf women and as well as a few hearing women (all certified ASL interpretors). The shows are sponsored by Deaf, Inc. Please visit the website for ticket sales and showtimes. I will perform in San Francisco for Yoni Ki Baat 2012! It will be the first time in a long time that I'm back onstage, so I'm really excited. My performance piece is called Ugly Beautiful/Brown White/Sweet Submissive/Orientalized Objectified, and it explores my childhood desire to be white, the stereotypical role Indian women are expected to play in society, and defying norms of being an Indian woman. I will perform in American Sign Language. Micropixie will “voice” my piece since I cannot speak well. I will also show a brand new video, so my performance is a mixture of ASL and multimedia!
Proceeds from the show will go to Narika, which helps South Asian victims of domestic abuse. WHEN: March 31st, 2012 (7PM) April 1st, 2012 (5PM) WHERE: Women's Building 3543 18th St # 8 San Francisco, CA 94110 WHY: This is a festival for South Asian women (artists, musicians, writers, dancers, filmmakers, and ordinary women like you) to perform and speak out about issues that affect Desi/South Asian women. This is loosely inspired by the Vagina Monologues, and this is part of V-Day, a global art movement to speak out against violence committed against women and girls.
