I will perform on October 8 (Saturday evening). I will present a new show called جمال القمر Jamal Al-Qamar ("Beauty of the Moon") a sign-language poetry show with Islamic calligraphy. More info can be found at Deaf Muslim Expo! Thrilled to finally share another new videopoem with you all!
"Hymn to the Nile" was a sacred hymn from more than 4,000 years ago. The Nile River was deeply sacred and very important to the ancient Egyptian people. They prayed to various deities for blessings and for bountiful flooding from the Nile River. I DO NOT CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT ON ANCIENT EGYPTIAN CULTURE. My video is NOT meant for educational purposes, it is for entertainment only! Ancient Egypt is one of my favorite topics to read and discuss, I have always been fascinated by the history. I took some liberty with English translation to make the first few lines of the hymn more clear and easier for both deaf and hearing audiences to understand and enjoy. ***Forthcoming PERFORMANCE at Deaf Muslim Expo in Chicago on October 8, 2022! The book features nonfiction pieces written by South Asian women (and identifying women) of diverse backgrounds, faiths, and upbringings, including Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, along with Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, etc. and Indo-Caribbean diaspora from Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, etc. You may pre-order a copy here. "untold: defining moments of the uprooted" is a collection of real stories that explores the South Asian experience in the U.S., U.K., and Canada through the lens of identity, being, and relationships. Thirty emerging voices share deeply personal moments of immigration, infertility, divorce, mental health, suicide, racism, colorism, LGBTQIA+ issues, and more all while balancing the push and pull of belonging to two cultural hemispheres. Every story sheds light on the authentic truths of living as womxn with hyphenated identities that have been only whispered-until now. ORDER YOUR PRE-COPY HERE!!! |
