I had an incredible opportunity to speak to students at California State University-Northridge in Los Angeles today. I gave a talk about my works as a deaf filmmaker and discussed how I got into filmmaking, and I offered some helpful advice and suggestions. It was great to meet all the professors and students. I feel lucky to share my voice with others.

My short sign-language poetry film, Deaf Brown Gurl, has been accepted at Lady Filmmakers Film Festival in Los Angeles, California! Deaf Brown Gurl, along with other shorts and features, will be screened at the Wilshire in Beverly Hills over the course of 3 days on September 27-30, 2018. I am so excited and proud to be part of this fantastic festival. Thank you to the organizers for picking my film. I'll see you all in Los Angeles!
Women Cinemakers, an online magazine based in Italy, has interviewed me about making Deaf Brown Gurl and asked many questions about the process of filmmaking and why/how I made the film. I believe the interview might be interesting for many of you who have followed my works for years.
You can read the article (my interview starts on page 164-165)
I have already announced it a few weeks ago on my social media, but I'll say it again: I am very happy and pleased to inform everyone that my show Allah Earth: The Cycle of Life was selected by a juried panel to perform at New York International Fringe Festival 2018. I will be given 5 shows to perform in Manhattan, New York.
I will post more information with show dates and venue.
Any organizations, schools and colleges in New York City-- please be aware, if you are interested in having me give a talk or workshop, you can contact me through my website. I am happy to share my art and knowledge with as many people as possible.
See you in New York City!
My performance of Allah Earth: The Cycle of Life was a great success at the DEAFinitions Conference at Hampshire College. It was one of my biggest audiences to date and I received so much great feedback from audience members. So I am very happy and I feel accomplished. Here are some photos (credit: Junior Gardner).
Thanks to Deaf Women of Color (DWC), an organization in Washington D.C for picking me as one of DWC's Overlooked Gems for March 2018 (Women's History Month). They asked me to make a video with subtitles, which is now available on DWC's Facebook page.
On April 5 (Thursday), I will give a talk to college students about my works as a Deaf filmmaker (open to the public).
On April 6 (Friday), I will give a free workshop to deaf artists about brand awareness.
Lastly, on April 7 (Saturday), I will perform at the deaf festival! Please see the flyers below.
I am grateful and blessed to announce that I was shortlisted for 2018 British Muslim Awards. It's a honor to be nominated alongside other great Muslims doing excellent work to contribute to Britian's society and culture for everyone, Muslim and non-Muslim.
Ultimately, I did not win, but I wish a hearty congratulations to Islamic GPS for winning. Thank you to all for existing and for doing good work!
