Last year, I directed, shot and edited a short film called Into the Woods, Love is Death. I've decided to take it down from my channel, because I felt it needed a bit more work. I'm much happier with the new results. You can watch it here (be sure to watch in HD!)
I shot and directed a short film called Of Winter's Beauty before I left for India, and I've finally finished editing the film. You can watch it here (be sure to watch in HD).
I have returned from a very short trip to Patna, Bihar, India (where my family is from). While there, I had been busy with a family wedding and also shooting film footage for my upcoming mini-documentary. I wanted to let you guys know that I've decided to make a mini-documentary, which is a mix of a personal memoir and documentary. It's yet untitled, but it's basically about my identity as a Deaf Indian, and about meeting other Deaf Indians, both in Patna, India and in the U.S.A. I want to explore the aspects of audism, racism, xenophobia, deaf pride, Indian pride, and the mixing of two cultures / two worlds in our everyday lives. So, I've shot a lot of footage in India, and I still have some more work to do here in USA.
I'm very excited to be working on this mini-doc, and I hope you guys will look forward to watching this when it comes out in a few months! I have just released my short ASL poetry film, Allah Earth, which is available on Youtube. I shot, performed and filmed Allah Earth in Costa Rica. Please watch in 1080 HD and closed captioning is available for Deaf folks who don't know ASL.
This is an ASL poem devoted to Allah, inspired by Earth during my time in Costa Rica. I was in awe of Earth's beauty while I was in Costa Rica, and it made me feel so close to Allah and I wanted to share it with you. I am a Muslim, and I am Deaf. I like to express my poetry / mi alma through American Sign Language. So, I wrote and performed "Allah Earth" in ASL, which I then translated into written English text. I took much of my inspiration from Sufi poets and Urdu poets, like Rumi and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Shot, edited, and performed by Sabina England. Voice Over by Samuel Gonzalez. Music composed & performed by Bryson Gerard. Check it out and be sure to subscribe to my channel! Sabina's new short film, Poema 15, based on a poem by Pablo Neruda, is out now! It's performed in American Sign Language, with Spanish voice over. Spanish closed captioning is available.
Lee la poema The video is based on a poem by Pablo Neruda from Chile. The poem is about unrequited love. The poem says: "I love you but you don't love me, but still, I love you always." I really understand this message because I have so much pain and I'm heartbroken. I am Deaf, and I wanted to combine Spanish and ASL (American Sign Language from the USA) together because I know both languages. Poema 15 was difficult to make, but I'm pleased with the results. ASL and Edited by Sabina England, Voice by Yanett Ramirez. English translation of "Poema 15" Watch Poema 15 and be sure to subscribe to Sabina's channel!
