Hi, here is a new interview/article with me for Newtopia Magazine, a Los Angeles zine. Thanks to Tamra Spivey of Lucid Nation for this.
I'm featured here in the Spring 2012 issue of Visual Artbeat magazine (based out of Salzburg, Austria) and I'm also interviewed in the Spring 2012 issue of Harbinger Asylum, a DIY zine based in Houston, Texas. Thanks to Dustin David Pickering! You can purchase The Harbinger Asylum for just $2, or if you see me around, I'll give you a copy.
Peace! I will perform in San Francisco for Yoni Ki Baat 2012! It will be the first time in a long time that I'm back onstage, so I'm really excited. My performance piece is called Ugly Beautiful/Brown White/Sweet Submissive/Orientalized Objectified, and it explores my childhood desire to be white, the stereotypical role Indian women are expected to play in society, and defying norms of being an Indian woman. I will perform in American Sign Language. Micropixie will “voice” my piece since I cannot speak well. I will also show a brand new video, so my performance is a mixture of ASL and multimedia!
Proceeds from the show will go to Narika, which helps South Asian victims of domestic abuse. WHEN: March 31st, 2012 (7PM) April 1st, 2012 (5PM) WHERE: Women's Building 3543 18th St # 8 San Francisco, CA 94110 WHY: This is a festival for South Asian women (artists, musicians, writers, dancers, filmmakers, and ordinary women like you) to perform and speak out about issues that affect Desi/South Asian women. This is loosely inspired by the Vagina Monologues, and this is part of V-Day, a global art movement to speak out against violence committed against women and girls. Proceeds will help South Asian victims of domestic violence. HOW: You can purchase tickets here. Hope to see you there! |
