Hey everyone, my new essay "Deaf Performance Art, Sound, and Allah Earth" is published in the new issue of Alt Theatre Magazine, an interdisciplinary performing arts magazine from Montreal, Canada. This issue is focused on diversity and disabilities in the performing arts. Each of us speaks about our works and we discuss how our disabilities intersect with our art. There are many kinds of disabilities highlighted in this issue. Here, I write about how I cannot hear music, yet I understand the importance of MUSIC and how I incorporate MUSIC as a major element in my performance art projects.
Allah Earth: The Cycle of Life, my new ASL poetry mime performance solo show, will be performed this summer, insha'allah... many thanks to Nikki from Alt Theatre for having me write this essay! Any word of mouth is always appreciated! Big thanks to Pavani Yalamanchilli and The Aerogram for picking my ASL poetry short film, Deaf Brown Gurl, as one of their Top 4 Short Films to Watch Right Now. Yeah, if you haven't seen Deaf Brown Gurl, then you should watch it RIGHT NOW! :)
